Racing for Safety is a team of both paid and volunteer fire-fighters dedicated to promoting fire safety to children of all ages. Each member of our team are too well aware of the number of children that are injured or tragically lose their life as a result of fire.

The team built up their first Targa Rally car to compete in the 2002 Dunlop Targa Rally between Auckland and Wellington. The success from this was so overwhelming that the team have continued to promote safety slogans.

 The team now have 3 vehicles that will further the team’s aspirations throughout the 2008 season. Focus will be the Dunlop Targa Rotorua, Waitomo Rally, Taranaki Rally and the main Dunlop Targa Rally in October over seven days between Auckland and Wellington.

 Racing for Safety attend a large number of events within the community as part of the New Zealand Fire Safety and awareness program. The vehicles also attend school fairs and galas, Christmas parades and are well known to local communities as the Fire Wise Rally cars.

 At the same time as vying for rally success, our team is working closely with the New Zealand Fire Service and the Burns Support Group Charitable Trust along with other emergency services to promote safety in the community.

The 2002 fire safety campaign, which incorporated the ‘Come on guys – get fire wise’ slogan, has been a great success. The fire safety message will continue to be part of the teams campaign in coming years.
